Tower Remembers 2025 – Honouring 80 Years Since the End of the Second World War

From 6 May to 11 November 2025, the Tower of London will host a moving new display of ceramic poppies. This special installation marks 80 years since the end of the Second World War. The tribute will feature nearly 30,000 poppies, on loan from the Imperial War Museums, many of which were part of the 2014 installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red. That original work surrounded the Tower with a sea of red and attracted over five million visitors.

A Powerful Tribute at the Tower’s Heart

The new display will resemble a wound in the heart of the Tower. Red poppies will spill across the inner lawn, forming a crater with ripples spreading outwards. The White Tower will overlook the scene, reminding visitors of the Blitz damage it once suffered. This striking visual aims to symbolise sacrifice, loss, and the lasting impact of war.

Key Dates to Remember

The display opens on 6 May 2025, just before the anniversary of VE Day on 8 May. It will remain in place through VJ Day on 15 August, ending on 11 November, Armistice Day. On that day, a special moment of remembrance will mark the conclusion of the exhibition. Afterward, the poppies will return to the museum’s collection.
