BRITAIN: HIDDEN ARTISTIC TREASURES
- Apsley House, London: Hidden beside Hyde Park Corner, once home to the Duke of Wellington, Apsley House holds an extraordinary private collection featuring masterpieces by Velázquez, Rubens and Goya, displayed within richly decorated state rooms. Nicknamed ‘Number 1 London‘ as it was the first house visitors saw entering the city from the countryside.
- Castle Howard, Yorkshire: Famous as a filming location for Brideshead Revisited and Bridgerton, Castle Howard is English grandeur at its most theatrical – remarkable private art collection, historic interiors and sweeping baroque architecture. After a devastating fire during WWII, the family spent decades lovingly restoring the house to its former glory.
- Palace of Holyroodhouse, Edinburgh: Scotland’s official royal residence at the foot of the Royal Mile, where Mary Queen of Scots lived, court conspiracies unfolded, and Bonnie Prince Charlie hosted lavish celebrations, hidden collections, royal apartments and one of Scotland’s most atmospheric historic settings.
- The Painted Hall, Greenwich: Often called ‘Britain’s Sistine Chapel‘ this extraordinary ceiling, painted by Sir James Thornhill over 19 years, tells the story of naval heroes, royal symbolism and allegorical figures and was where Admiral Nelson lay in state before his funeral at St Paul’s Cathedral. Thornhill even painted himself into the artwork, hand outstretched, as a subtle request for payment.

THE GRAND ART TOUR: SUMMER 2026

Culture isn’t confined to museums – it’s woven into everyday life. Nowhere is this more evident than in Rome, where ancient history, artistic masterpieces and vibrant city life exist side by side. One of the city’s true cultural highlights is the Borghese Gallery & Garden Promenade, home to an extraordinary collection of masterpieces by Bernini, Caravaggio and Raphael, set within one of Rome’s most beautiful historic parks. From magnificent piazzas and hidden churches to elegant gardens and world-renowned art collections, Rome continues to inspire travellers seeking culture, beauty and unforgettable experiences at every turn

travel smarter this summer
From Italy’s iconic art cities to France’s world-famous museums and historic neighbourhoods, travellers are increasingly seeking more seamless and flexible ways to experience Europe’s cultural highlights. Across France, advanced reservations and timed-entry experiences are becoming essential for popular sites including the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay and Versailles, particularly during peak travel periods.
Insider Tip: For major galleries, including the Borghese Gallery, Uffizi, Accademia, and the Louvre, early-morning entry remains one of the best ways to experience these masterpieces more peacefully before the crowds arrive.
