The world’s one and only rotating boat lift. A marvel of engineering and Scottish Canals’ flagship destination, The Falkirk Wheel. Connecting the Forth & Clyde Canal with the Union Canal in a half-turn that takes only five minutes!
The Original Tour
Take a ride on the world’s only rotating boat lift, The Falkirk Wheel. The Original Tour takes 50 minutes and includes two turns on The Wheel. Confident and calm dogs are welcome, however we advise wherever possible furry friends stay on terra ferma.
Enjoy the full experience of The Falkirk Wheel during your 50 minute boat trip on MV Antonine, or MV Archimedes (the history of why they’re called that will be revealed during your visit!). You’ll depart from the Falkirk Wheel basin ready to enter The Wheel’s lower gondola.
Once the boat team have been cleared for rotation, you’ll then sail through the sky to join the Union Canal 35 metres above your starting position – in only 5 minutes! After your first boat trip in the air you’ll smoothly sail along the aqueduct, through the Roughcastle Tunnel (complete with its award-winning lighting installation) to the mouth of the Union Canal, before doing a full 180 degree turn and completing the entire trip in reverse.
