A quiet haven in the centre of London, The Goring is ideally located, adjacent to Buckingham Palace and within walking distance of the Royal parks, London’s principal shopping areas and the heart of the West End and Theatreland. The Houses of Parliament and Westminster are close by, and just a few minutes walk to Victoria station, with high speed direct train link to Gatwick Airport.
Back in 1910, Jeremy’s great-grandfather, OR Goring, founded the hotel that has carried the family name ever since. A man of great vision, OR Goring persuaded the Duke Of Westminster to sell the plot of land at the Buckingham Palace end of what was to become Beeston Place, where he razed the Sun public house and a string of cottages to make way for the last grand hotel to be built in the Edwardian era. On the 2nd March 1910 the world’s first hotel with en suite facilities and central heating to every bedroom was opened.
Today, The Goring is regarded the favourite address for anyone looking for the quintessentially English hotel in the heart of London. A hotel where every member of the team takes terrific pride in offering the highest levels of personal service, where guests are sincerely welcomed and can enjoy elegant individual accommodations, the tranquillity of its own private Gardens, and the utterly splendid Lounge Bar and Dining Room where the very best of British food and been celebrated for over a century.
Each of the 69 bedrooms and suites encapsulate the quintessentially English feel of this grand English hotel. Over the past five years some of the top British Interior Designers were engaged to add glamour, sophistication and luxury to all of them whilst retaining the feeling of a home from home.
The Bar throbs at the epicentre of London life. Designed by Tim Gosling, it smacks of colonial grandeur without the stuffed game. In the summer, the verandah overlooks the enormous gardens and is one of the hidden gems of the City.
Afternoon tea is probably London’s best. The Chief Exec tastes the tea blends himself, even the weird and wonderful stuff. In The Dining Room, no apologies are made for serving PROPER British cuisine using produce so carefully sourced many of the supplier, farmer and producer names are kept in a safe.
